La Mer Review

I recently had the opportunity to try several La Mer cosmetic products and I have to tell you, I think I have found another Holy Grail foundation to add to my list.

La Mer offers two formulas in The Treatment foundations. One being a creme and the other a liquid. The first product I tried was the Treatment Creme Foundation SPF15. This luxurious creme is formulated with the same La Mer's anti-aging properties. It's a souffle like weightless creme that comes in a glass jar along with a hard plastic spatula. The spatula comes in handy for removing the foundation, which is a better sanitary choice than having to use ones fingers and risking the chance of contamination.
I tried using my foundation brush but the application did not seem to work too well for me. I then used the handy little spatula and applied the creme to my face with my fingers. Dotting it all over and gently patting it to smooth it out. It blended perfectly and did a decent job of covering my imperfections. I have oily skin with large pores along with a few sun spots and my skin really did take on a healthy looking glow.
This creme gives you a medium to full coverage application and is buildable. To set my foundation I used La Mer The Powder.

This powder comes in an oversized glass jar along with a powder puff.
This luxurious finishing powder is so incredibly light it appears to float. Developed with symmetrically shaped, uniquely coated particles, it magnetically attracts to the skin for a perfect fit. Airspun seaborne particles – some of the lightest materials on earth – create an imperceptible finish that leaves skin looking flawless. Translucent coverage.

After trying the creme foundation, I just couldn't wait to get my hands on the liquid one. So I cleansed my skin and prepared it with my moisturizer. I opted out of using a foundation primer for this one because I wanted to see how smooth my application would be and how long it would last.

Like the creme, this foundation is also formulated with La Mer's anti-aging properties. It too came in a glass jar with a pump that is very similar to Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk one. I added 2 small pumps of this foundation onto my foundation brush and applied it. This has to be one of the best foundations I have used. It felt so light on my skin and the color blended in beautifully to give me that airbrushed flawless look. I then set my foundation with the La Mer The Powder and went about my day as usual. Several hours later I went to freshen up and saw that my foundation did not budge. My blush did not melt off nor did my powder! I was shocked to say the least. I know that with my other high end foundations, I normally get oily within the first hour or two of the application and end up doing touch ups soon after. So you can imagine how surprised I was to see that my makeup looked like I had just put it on. These products definitely have the power to transform the skin.

Honestly I did not anticipate that I was going to fancy these products at all. La Mer is definitely in a league of its' own.

finally, a DECENT review on LaMer foundations. I was going to buy Elizabeth Arden's Intervene foundation, but wow. I have oily skin like you, with large pores, so this sounds REALLY nice. thanks again for the post, I'll be linking this on my own blog!

La Mer is the absolute best for your skin. My Mother died at 74, but she didn't even look 50. The La Mer erased so many fine lines on her face.
Good review! :)

Thank you ladies, I am glad you both liked it. :)

would you recommend this for 25 year old fair dry skin?

Jancy I went to La Mer's website and couldn't find a thing, so I am assuming that it is for all skin types. I personally think it would work well with dry skin. :)

I went to Nordstrom's last week and tried the powder for the first time & I was really impressed. It felt so light and flawless. I have not tried the foundation but that is next on my list. I am currently using Sisley & do really like it but I want to try La Mer. For Christmas I got the Concentrate Serum and small sample of the LA Mer creme...I put both on and it feels like I have nothing on which I like. I am currently using the gel creme and love that as well. I used to use Clarins but sold it all. You can't go wrong w/La Mer it seems like :)

Hi Nicolle, I am so glad you are loving the La Mer products. Every time I use the powder, it gives me the most flawless looking skin. The jar is so big that it will last you a really long time. My jar is over half full and I use almost every day.

Thanks Melissa :) I have used the sample I received for the creme and I'm a little worried it might be causing to break out. I got two new small zits this morning. I used the gel creme before & had no issues w/it. I was told my the woman at the counter for LA Mer that the gel creme is best for people w/oily skin - which I have. I read some reviews for the creme and some also mentioned breaking out. Have you had the same experience? I like the creme but I think I should go back to the gel creme.

Hi Nicolle, so sorry to hear that you are breaking out. Nobody likes to get breakouts! As for the La Mer cremes, I don't use any of their skin care products so I am of no help there. I have only used their foundations and their powder. There must be something in the creme that is causing your breakouts. I know it is really hard to pinpoint exactly what it could be. I know that if a product contains glycerin, it can make me break out, so I try and stay away from that. Check out the ingredients and maybe do a search on the names to see what you can find. That is what I usually do if I am experiencing breakouts while testing a new product. Let me know how it goes. :)

Sory for the delay in responding! I stopped using the creme and my skin went back to normal. I only use the gel creme now. What foundation would you suggest for oily skin? I visited the La Mer counter a few times and spoke to 2 different sales ladies. One suggest the liquid foundation and the other the creme. I prefer one that is long lasting, so I was told to purchase the creme foundation but I also heard it is not oil free :[

Can you tell me what the ingrediants are for the Le Mer Powder Foundation? I have skin which can react to cartain ingrediants but I'm hoping this will be a nice healthy powder.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Anonymous, I checked my jar of powder and was surprised to see that it did not have a list of ingredients. I no longer have the box it came in which I am assuming it had a list on it. I also went to La Mer's website and found nothing there but you might want to shoot them an email inquiring a list of the Powders ingred's.
Hope that helps.

Does the powder go on matte? is it pearly? Cause I really like the reviews for it so far but I like powders to look natural and not give like a pearly finish.

The powder does not give a pearly finish at all. It goes on matte but looks so natural. It really gives the skin that airbrushed look. HTH :)
