Today I have a special treat for all of you. I asked my lovely teenaged daughter, if she would care to write a review on the Solar Bits since she had tried them out first. I have to confess I was a bit apprehensive to apply these because I honestly didn't know what to do with them. She was gracious enough to come to my aid and relieve me of this task. Without further ado, here is her review.
SOLAR BITS
When I first twisted the lid off these small containers, I was immediately attracted to the colors and shimmer of MAC's Solar Bits. One pigment, Scatterrays, is described as a "soft metallic peach with gold pearl," a gorgeous shade for most skin tones. It's suggested use is for eye and cheek application, the perfect complement for a sun bronzed look.
Personally, I was afraid to work with these, since they were, after all, messy clusters - but the first time I applied the pigment clusters, I fell in love! The color alone perfected the look, and I vowed to use it again. So when I did use it again, I thought I'd switch it up - in addition to the Scatterrays shade, I also used "Black Ore" which MAC describes as a "rich black with gold pearl." With carefully placed sweeps of my application brush, I created a gorgeous "smokey eye" look. The Black Ore complemented the Scatterrays shade nicely, and blending it didn't create a "muddy" appearance (which is surprising for me, since I've always had trouble creating a proper smokey eye look).
They can be messy to use at first, but with carefulness and precision you can avoid askew clusters or untidy spillage. MAC's Solar Field Solar Bits was a pleasant surprise for me and will hopefully be the same for you.
Mac's description:
Solar Bits
Highly condensed clusters of pigment and pearl uniquely formulated to give a special hit of frost and colour on eyes and cheeks. The pigment’s special clustering formula provides the choice of two application modes. Swish the brush over the top of the clusters for a sheer shimmer or crush them for more intense colour effect and sparkle.

After seeing how her application came out looking soft and subtle and not overly glittered, I have decided to play around with these and see what I can come up with. Mind you I don't have youthful skin like my daughter has and so this might not look as good on me as it does on her. So stay tuned!
UPDATE:
I completely forgot to let you all know what I thought of these. I have to say I loved the Black Ore, it was easy to work with and was so subtle looking on my eyes, not harsh, like some blacks can look. As for the Scatterrays, I just felt that these were more suitable for someone who likes a lot of glitter. I for one don't but I have to admit that Scatterrays is really a beautiful gold pigment. A little more difficult to work with but if you know what you are doing, you can create a beautiful eye look with this one. I'm still trying to master the smokey eye look and have a long way to go.
So be brave, experiment with them and have fun!
