You may have seen the tv commercials where Brooke Shields touts Latisse, the eyelash growing drug. I know I have and I have also seen the ads in just about every beauty and fashion magazine too!
And while it may be easy to spot a TV commercial for Latisse, it’s not so easy for consumers to recognize the downside of gorgeous eyelashes.
Consumer Reports spells it out in its newest installment of AdWatch: The drug, which costs about $100 a month, could make hair grow in places you don’t want it; it could turn your blue eyes brown; it could cause darkening of the lower eyelids and a “raccoon” look; and it could give you itchy, red eyes. And P.S., when you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes return to normal.
CR notes that Latisse has caught the eye of the Food and Drug Administration, which in September warned Allergan that promotional materials on the drug’s Web site omitted or minimized certain risks.
As noted in a blog posted at ConsumerReportsHealth.org, the Latisse commercial embodies pretty much everything that’s wrong with direct-to-consumer advertising.

I KNEW it was too good to be true!
So did I! One reason why I never blogged about this product.
o wow this sounds scary.
It changes your eye color?! that is weird.
I think for $100 a month, I can buy tons of amazing mascaras that lengthens my lashes.

I use this so please read the whole review....
My experience with Latisse. This product will not give you long full eyelashes IF you didn't have them to begin with. When you are older your eyelashes get shorter and thinner. I never had great lashes to begin with but with mascara they were just fine. I am over 50 and my eyelashes got so short that they couldn't fit in an eyelash curler. I have been using Latisse for about a year. After the first month I noticed a change in length of my lashes, and I kept using faithfully EVERY night. I can honestly say that my eyelashes are back to what they used to be. NOT full thick lashes but the lashes I used to have. It hasn't irritated my lids and I'm careful not to get any in m eyes, so no change in eye color for me. I am a natural blonde with blue eyes. ALSO each kit comes with 60 brushes to use one brush for each eye for 30 days. Throw them out they are funky cheap hard bristle brushes. I use a smudge eyeliner brush. I wash it after each use. You use a lot less product. One kit lasts me a few months, because you don't have to use a full drop on the brush, and it's enough to do both eyes.
It may also work for you if you have short broken lashes due to over use of waterproof mascara???

Like Sue, I too am over 50 and have been using Latisse for a year. My eyelashes had grown sparse and even with mascara they were barely noticeable. After using Latisse for about 6 weeks I began to notice a marked difference. My eyelashes have almost doubled in length and have gotten just slightly thicker. I used the product faithfully every night for the first 5-6 months and then started skipping a day or two each week and it helps to stretch to the product with no negative effects that I can see.
I have green eyes and there has been no color change. I also have had no darkening of the lids or 'raccoon' effect as was mentioned above. I asked my Dr. about the cautions and he felt there was nothing really to be concerned about. He told me the drug in the product was previously geared toward helping people with glaucoma.
I am also careful to make sure I don't put too much on my eyes and that none gets in my eyes. I have had some very minimal itching of the lids, but barely noticeable. I love the product and how long my lashes have grown!

I started using Latisse 4 months ago because my eyelashes had grown so sparse that I'd quit using mascara (just turned 50). I had spaces of up to 1/4" between each lash. After 8 wks. of use (I applied it to bottom lashes too), my top lashes were 50% longer AND fuller--new lashes that is--and my bottom ones were 100% longer and fuller. They are now fuller than when I was a teenager and I am asked about twice a week if they are my own. Also, my eyelashes have always needed an eyelash curler, and still do; however, half have now grown in with a nice natural curl.
Also, to avoid unnecessary product waste and the wide applicators I purchased a thin and precise washable eyeliner to use in applying latisse. I've had no discoloration on my skin or in my iris. Latisse has helped me feel pretty again.
