Holiday Makeup & Fab Lashes Tips From Celebrity Makeup Artist Brett Freedman

Celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman shares his tips, product picks and his favorite holiday makeup looks with TMD!

WINE & BERRY HOLIDAY MAKEUP:
This holiday season it's all about vivid hues in plum, berry and wine. The best part about this color palette is that it universally flattering. Other pluses are that these juicy tones add brightness and instant glamour to the face.

The 'season appropriate' blush:
I heart Benefit's Throb powder. A beautiful toasted cranberry color that gives a natural looking flush. Sweep from apple of cheeks toward temples. I like to dust on chin and along hairline to give the face warm glow.

Burgundy/plum eyeshadow:
My tip for adding these fun, unique shades to your make up bag is to head to the drugstore. I love Maybelline's Rose Tints duo. These shades to give eyes instant intensity but with a soft vibe. Here's how to apply them:

Crisp, dramatic brows:
With an amp'd up eye your best bet is to make sure your arches don't look low watt. Be sure to give your brows a nice tweeze/clean up early in the season so they are always camera ready. When doing your makeup, define your brows with a pencil or powder that's one shade lighter than your hairs. You want a shadow of definition, not a hard filled in line. Try Vanitymark's Ultra-Brow powder.

My tip: if you are wearing your hair up, give brows a touch extra crispness since they will be center stage.

All over shimmer:
One mainstay in my kit is Lorac's Perfectly Lit pressed shimmer powder in Luminous. A gorgeous champagne hued highlighter that can be used on cheeks, eyes and lips. I like to sweep a touch on apples of cheeks, middle of the eyelids and blended into the center of the lips with your lip color to give an extra eye catching glow. This is a make up bag must have!

Alluring lips:
Girls, it's time to stand out and be bold! This season grab a lip color that demands attention. A beautifully bold shade I recommend is YSL's Candy Plum sheer lipstick. You've been a lip gloss haze the last few years, maybe it's time to rediscover the ‘drama mama’ inside and embrace a classic. More pigmented than a gloss, this lip sheer gives your mouth a beautiful crispness. Bonus, with deeper shades your teeth look extra pearly!

1. A STURDY LASH CURLER
BRETT SAYS: This is huge. I'm shocked by how many women don't take advantage of this eye opening, younger-looking-in-a-snap tool. Even if your lashes don't need the extra lift a curler can give, I like the crispness that a little nudge will give by just aligning and evening up the lash line.

TRY: The CURL from Vanitymark (guess what ladies? It’s on sale for $6.50 on vanitymark.com!!). Using a curler will make your eyes look as big and expressive as possible. The silicon curling pad is designed for just enough give to curl not crimp lashes.

2. THE PERFECT BLACK MASCARA
BRETT SAYS: I’m a huge fan of mascara. I love that women can wear oodles of it and it really never ‘reads’ as makeup. What better way to amp up your look than with long, dark lush lashes?!

TRY: L’Oreal Voluminous - I was turned onto this by Annette Benning YEARS ago and it's still one of my faves! It’s a beautiful shade of black black and goes on super smooth!
OR: Cover Girl Lashblast in Very Black - Great formula. Great brush. This is a must-have for my kit and Kelly Clarkson got me to try it! She grabbed a tube while touring and had me give it a try...I loved it!

3. A LASH COMB & BRUSH
BRETT SAYS: An additional boost for all the perfectionists out there – a brush/comb is key for me to fluff and separate lashes for a natural and defined lashline.

TRY: The DUO from my line Vanitymark – It’s a dual-sided foldable brush/comb combo that collapses into a tiny, travel-friendly size and easily fluffs lashes pre-mascara and eliminates clumps post-mascara (And it’s also on sale - just $4 on vanitymark.com!).
